Hoppegarten is not only a community east of Berlin, it’s also the horse racetrack located there. The rhyrthm and sound of the name might suggest that it imitates and derivates from the way horses move. Even in German “hoppe” sounds like a funny way to say “jump”, as you find it in a well known child song “Hoppe Hoppe Reiter”. Sadly that’s not the case… it derives from hops. That’s not such a bad meaning either, right!?
