I recently had the pleasure of accompanying the renowned Berlin artist and fashion designer Fiona Bennett as she installed her contribution to the exhibition at the Museum of Asian Art.
With an expansive hat landscape, the ARI ARIRANG exhibition spans the arc of traditional Korean millinery into the present day with works made especially for the exhibition by Fiona Bennett, whose creations are worn by celebrities worldwide. Fiona explores how the technically elaborate Korean hats and the hat-making craft, which is almost extinct in Germany, continue to fascinate today.
Three of Bennett’s hats are made to speak in the exhibition themselves and tell of their eventful life as hats in the Joseon Area as „Talking Hats“ in an interactive installation.
The special exhibition of the Ethnological Museum and Museum of Asian Art – National Museums in Berlin at the Humboldt Forum can be seen until April 21, 2024.
